Wandering Whiteshell Provincial Park
// May 22nd, 2009 // Birds of Manitoba, Boreal Forest, Manitoba Tourist Destination, Scenic, Whiteshell Provincial Park
Welcome back to my website & thanks for visiting !This past weekend we finally had a lovely sunny spring day – it’s been a long and seemingly ongoing winter on the prairies.
Spring is one of the best times to find a variety of Manitoba birds as they are on route to their summer nesting grounds. Sunday was no exception.
Today I’d like to share a few photos with you. The American White Pelicans taking full advantage of fish offerings at the base of Rainbow Falls. The other photos are of Sandhill Cranes. I’m not sure if the pair was nesting in the marsh area I visited or just stopping for a few days but I had seen them before in this particular area. It was great sitting and watching them as they strutted around the marsh feeding and also to listen to their loud resonant calls. The photos were taken at quite a distance as I did not wish to disturb them.
I’ll share a few more photos from this day trip to the Whiteshell in the next few days. Hope you’ll check back.
