Wandering Whiteshell Provincial Park Part 2
// May 23rd, 2009 // Birds of Manitoba, Boreal Forest, Manitoba Tourist Destination, Scenic, Whiteshell Provincial Park
Today I’ll share a few more Pelican photos with you. I had been wondering about the bump on their beaks so checked a few other websites to find out more. The pelicans, both male and female develop these “horns” during breeding season. Once the eggs hatch these horns disappear. We are lucky to have Pelican breeding grounds right here in Manitoba. They don’t seem too bothered by human presence and make great photographic subjects. I’ve watched them soar high in the sky but always get a chuckle when they land – they are rather clownish looking bringing their feet down like the landing gear on an airplane.
