The 2012 transit of Venus, when the planet Venus appeared as a small, dark disk moving across the face of the Sun.  The transits appear in pairs eight years apart and are one of the rarest of predictable celestial phenomena.  The next transit of Venus will not occur until December 2117 and then in December 2125.  So, given those dates this was my one and only opportunity to view and photograph this celestial event.  The following photos were taken on the outskirts of Winnipeg, Mb in the early evening hours using a makeshift filter for my camera lens which worked rather well I thought.  The orange glow is the same colour I was seeing through special viewing glasses from the Manitoba Museum.  Although a few weeks have already passed I thought it is never too late to post something we will never see again in our lifetimes.
