Willet & chicks

On an early July visit to Oak Hammock Marsh I came across these three Willet chicks running down a gravel road.  They were not able to fly as yet but the parent Willet was flying overhead keeping watch while I snapped a photo.  I’ve only seen Willets a few times but it was especially nice to see the chicks on this visit.

Canada Geese

Canada Geese – oh so common in every local pond around the city.  Although this post is dated late May, these photos were taken early in the month.  There are already some newly hatched goslings in our local pond and I will wander down there on the next sunny evening to see them.  Mother goose was leading her brood across a very busy street a few days ago but all the traffic stopped for them to pass safely.

Enjoy!

Wood Ducks

These beautiful Wood Ducks are especially so during mating season when the males head dress is brightly coloured.  I have found them to be very flighty but occasionally I manage to get close enough to get a few photos.
