Pelicans @ Pelican River

Once again in the Pleasant Valley where the Pelican River meanders through the valley area. American White Pelicans were in abundance here and behave like a synchronized swim team, swimming in formation and diving down in unison. These large birds are fun to watch as they dip down into the water for food. Bottoms up!

A Pelican’s Bath

Now this is a bath! There are a lot of pelicans around Lockport at the time of this writing. On a recent drive up River Road to Lockport these lovely birds were busy preening and sunning on the banks of the Red River. The pelican featured in today’s photos was rolling onto its back and splashing at the water’s edge and looked like it was really enjoying it’s bath.
