SHOWY MILKWEED – Varying stages of the Showy Milkweed blooms are featured in today’s blog.  They are beautiful sturdy plants with thick rounded leaves and are about 2 feet tall.  When in full bloom the flower clusters are about the size of a baseball.  Really a lovely wildflower.  The first photo is a flower cluster in full bloom. The photos that follow take the flower back progressively to early budding stage.

I am still finding new wildflowers everywhere I go. The last few trips have been more on the flat prairie and along the banks of the Red River and it is obvious that different plants like different habitats. I am not seeing plants that are familiar to me from the forested areas of the province. The first photo is a Prairie Coneflower.

I simply can’t believe the variety of flowers one can find along the roadways. Changing week by week, some now going to seed, others in full bloom and still more just starting to flower at the time of writing this blog. Since starting to catalogue them I am finding an abundance of colours and variety everywhere I have travelled.

The Oxeye Daisy featured in today’s blog is blanketing our fields, meadows and roadsides.  The second, third and fourth images here are digitally altered with some effects.
