Spruce Grouse in Winter

More photos of the Spruce Grouse – this time during the late winter months.  I love the photo below showing the beautiful fanned tail of the male grouse walking into the seemingly endless winter white.

Black Capped Chickadees

I have done posts before featuring these adorable little birds but they are so popular I thought I would share some newer photos taken in December.  They are flighty and seem to be in constant motion flying to and from the black oil sunflower feeder.  Delightful and energetic little winter birds!

Pine Grosbeaks

I love watching these birds!  They are beautifully coloured and elusive at most times of the year as they seem to prefer the spruce and fir forested areas but in winter they will flock to feeding stations.  Adult males are gray and red and adult females are gray with olive green/golden highlights on the head and rump.  According to my reference book they are sometimes referred to a Snow Parrots because of their size, colour and feeding habits.  These photos were taken in the Kenora area.  They are such beautiful birds.
