Once in a Lifetime – An Otter Story

I couldn’t believe what I was being told on the phone until I actually saw these photos. My son and his fiance were canoeing in the Whiteshell Provincial Park when this curious otter decided to pay them a visit and literally hopped into their canoe. Maybe it was just tired of swimming around and wanted a lift back to shore  . . . At first, they said they were a little leary about having a wild animal in such close quarters and weren’t quite sure what to do about their “little buddy”. As you can see, the otter didn’t have those feelings at all. I presume some cottager in the area had likely befriended this otter as it did appear overly tame. This otter was nibbling on her ear and made itself comfortable on her lap – just like a puppy would. The photos (taken by my children) speak for themselves. Amazing !
