Nesting Birds: Mallards

This nest belongs to Mallard ducks and contained 10 eggs.  They are very well hidden among reeds along the water’s edge.  I came across it by accident – and would have stepped on it had the mother duck not flown up right in front of me.   She had sat on her nest so quietly and did not move until I was right beside the nest she had so well hidden.  I would have never seen it or the mother mallard if I had been walking a few feet further away.  I quickly snapped this photo and left the area so the female mallard would return.  Below: a pair of mallards and mallard ducklings.

Enjoy!
