Jackson’s Lodge Outposts & Adventure Air can transport your group into the wild for an unforgettable fishing and wilderness experience. Adventure Air, located in Lac Du Bonnet is just an hour from Winnipeg.  Our  group met at 9:00 am and by 10:30 am we were the proud “owners” of an island retreat in Atikaki Wilderness Provincial Park.    Wapeskapek Lake on the Gammon River became my home for three full days and I hated to have to leave.

A half hour plane ride over pristine lakes and boreal forrest,  gear unloaded from our float plane, a quick lunch and our 3 boats set out for fishing.  We were not disappointed !  Drop a line – catch a fish !  Pickerel ( or Walleye ) were abundant and hungry.  Big Northerns lurked in the weed beds too.

Aside from fishing, the accommodations were excellent. A well stocked kitchen with everything we needed and more, comfortable beds, hot & cold running water, an indoor  shower, even a freezer in addition to the propane fridge, stove and oven.  Reliable Honda motors on all boats.  All we really needed was our sleeping bags, personal items, food and beverages.

What did we see in our three days?  A few wilderness canoe parties camping on the mossy bedrock  and travelling downstream on the Gammon River, a moose swimming with her calf, nesting bald eagles with a great view of the nest and chick, spruce grouse, a variety of songbirds including a flock of cedar waxwings and river otters that would frequent our dock.  The wild blueberries and raspberries were abundant  on the island as well.  Great photo opportunities all around.

 

Our pilots were awesome!  We flew with Shaun Jackson of Adventure Air.  The flight itself was amazing looking down at rivers, streams, lakes, boreal forrest and Canadian Shield bedrock.  I loved the flights and the sights!

Our group consisted of 5 women and 2 men – likely a little different mix than normally takes a trip of this sort.  I mention this because its a great trip for everyone.
