Pleasant Valley

Found in southwestern Manitoba, the Pleasant Valley features rolling hills and wandering rivers and streams.  It is home to moose, deer, coyotes, pelicans, bluebirds, hawks & falcons, herons and many other beautiful birds.  Only a few hours from Winnipeg it could make a great day trip for bird watchers.  It is a unique and beautiful area of Manitoba.  Below, a country road and the Pelican River from Pleasant Valley taken early in spring.

Enjoy!

Pelicans @ Pelican River

Once again in the Pleasant Valley where the Pelican River meanders through the valley area.  American White Pelicans were in abundance here and behave like a synchronized swim team, swimming in formation and diving down in unison.  These large birds are fun to watch as they dip down into the water for food.  Bottoms up!

Enjoy!

Eastern Bluebird

Yet another find in the Pleasant Valley area.   We saw a fair number of them in this area and there were many nesting boxes located on fence posts throughout the valley area.  Tree Swallows had taken up residence in many of the boxes from what I could see but the Bluebirds obviously find this area to be a suitable habitat as well.  They can have up to two broods per season and eat mostly insects and berries.  Bluebirds can be found in open country around trees and are most common along pastures, parks, golf courses etc.  Their numbers had dwindled but Bluebirds have made a comeback with the help of nesting boxes and conservation efforts.  They are slightly smaller than an American Robin.

Enjoy!
