St. Ambroise Provincial Park features a lovely sand beach with a campground and day use facilities on the south east shore of Lake Manitoba. Lake Manitoba does not appear to be suffering the same type of water quality issues as Lake Winnipeg making it a nicer choice if you wish to go into the water. Close to here is also Delta Marsh (an excellent birding area) where the University of Manitoba has a research station and birds are banded. St. Ambroise is a short drive from the city of Winnipeg making it a great day trip destination. The campground is basic, no places to purchase provisions in the immediate area so take what you need. There is a small general store in the town of St. Ambroise. Today’s photos  of beach critters are from a recent day trip earlier in September.

Chipmunk

Chipmunk

Is there anyone out there that doesn’t think Chipmunks are adorable?  These two little chipmunks were busy eating seeds from a garden and planter, climbing the plants, picking what used to be flowers and scurrying about. One of them tried to “harvest” some fur from my moccasin one night under the cover of darkness. I only felt it when it ran across the top of my foot and discovered in the morning light that some fur trim was missing. I suppose it would make for a good chipmunk mattress.

Off the beaten path . . .

Rocky Mountain Corral

Today’s photos will be a little “off the beaten path” from my usual photos of flowers, birds or wildlife. They are from a recent trip to Alberta. The first photo is of a corral for horses in the mountains.  This is the location where we went for a mountain canyon ride.

Below:  An piece of driftwood with unusual shape.

I see a Baboon laying on its back (left) and a lizard’s head ( top right).  What do you see?
